Bulgarian Military Historical Heritage Foundation

Welcome to the website of The Bulgarian Military Historical Heritage Foundation.

We, The Bulgarian Military Historical Heritage Foundation and The Bulgarian Land Forces Association, recognize the role of people’s memory in nurturing the sense of national pride and love for the motherland and the desire for justice and personal dignity. There have always been difficult moments in Bulgaria’s development in its modern history but also there have always been Bulgarians who, when called by historical necessity and personal destiny to serve their country, have left everyday pragmatism and personal interests far behind. Preserving the memory of their deeds, we want their example to show the way for future generations to follow for the good of the Bulgarian community.

On this website you may download free of charge our first two publications in PDF format:

Book “History of the Bulgarian Land Forces” – Volume I

Herein we present you Volume I of “History of the Land forces of Bulgaria” within the project “History of the Land forces of Bulgaria”.

The first volume is about the history of the Bulgarian Land Forces from the establishment of the army of volunteers battalions, which formed the territorial military units (“Zemska Voiska”), by the end of WWI.

This is the history of the establishment of the land forces with their four main branches (infantry, artillery, cavalry and pioneers- engineering) as an armed force and guarantor of the independence and territorial integrity of the country and for the development of military art during the four wars for national unification. This is the history of the most glorious period in the development of the land forces, full of victories, heroism, military glory and an honored duty before the altar of the Motherland, which turned the Bulgarian army into the first military force on the Balkans.

This publication has two distinct parts – „The Generals in the Infantry“ – where are presented the twenty-two men, who reached the highest rank:  general of the Infantry of the Kingdom of Bulgaria and “The first infantry regiments in the Bulgarian army“ where the most notable moments in the history of Bulgaria’s first infantry units are represented from the time of their establishment to the end of their participation in the Second World War.
